Goodnight Bush: A Parody(more) »rank: 578by: Gan Golan, Erich Origen
Our review: :A brilliant parody of the children's classic Goodnight Moon, built around the coming end of the worst presidency ever.Goodnight Bush: An Unauthorized Parody is a hilarious and poignant visual requiem for the Bush administration. In it we see a childlike George W. Bush tucked safely away in the confines of his own room with all of the toys he's willfully destroyed, abused, or defaced. Complete with a quiet Dick Cheney whispering 'hush,' this bedtime story lets us finally say goodnight to the disaster that was the last eight years. Detail |

This is the unforgettable that forever changed Batman's world, adding a new element of darkness with its unflinching portrayal of The Joker's twisted psyche. Me Talk Pretty One Day(more) »rank: 520by: David Sedaris
Our review: :A new collection from David Sedaris is cause for jubilation. His recent move to Paris has inspired hilarious pieces, including Me Talk Pretty One Day, about his attempts to learn French. His family is another inspiration. You Cant Kill the Rooster is a portrait of his brother who talks incessant hip-hop slang to his bewildered father. And no one hones a finer fury in response to such modern annoyances as restaurant meals presented in ludicrous towers and cashiers with 6-inch fingernails. Compared by The New Yorker to Twain and Hawthorne, Sedaris has become one of our best-loved authors. Review:David ... Detail |

An Inconvenient Book: Real Solutions to the World's Biggest Problems(more) »rank: 593by: Glenn Beck, Kevin Balfe
Our review: :The world is a mess. It seems that every time you turn around, there's another problem: Iran is developing nuclear capabilities. Public schools actually seem to be making our kids dumber. Charlie Sheen has a hit sitcom. Obesity is a national epidemic. The divorce rates is rising faster than gas prices. Did you hear me--Charlie Sheen has a hit sitcom! This just barely scratches the surface. Sadly, there's no shortage of problems what we need now are solutions. If only there was a man who could simplify things, cut through the rhetoric and fix everything? Then, if he was just ... Detail |
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns(more) »rank: 1138713by: Frank Miller, Klaus Janson, Lynn Varley
Our review: :If any comic has a claim to have truly reinvigorated the genre, then The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller--known also for his excellent Sin City series and his superb rendering of the blind superhero Daredevil--is probably the top contender. Batman represented all that was wrong in comics and Miller set himself a tough task taking on the camp crusader and turning this laughable, innocuous children's cartoon character into a hero for our times. The great Alan Moore (V for Vendetta, Swamp Thing, the arguably peerless Watchmen) argued that only someone of Miller's stature could have done this. Batman is ... Detail |

Our review: :Borges meets the bathroom book in John Hodgman's bestselling almanac of complete (and fabricated) world knowledge. Abridged CDs - 4 CDs, 5 hours Review:With his Daily Show appearances and his 'I'm a PC' Apple ads, John Hodgman has only become more famous since the hardcover edition of his all-you-need compendium of facts, The Areas of My Expertise was released. He has also become smarter. To reflect this, the paperback edition of The Areas of My Expertise has been expanded to include 100 new hobo names and new, additional complete world knowledge. John Hodgman and his fur-hatted associate, Jonathan, have ... Detail |
Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid(more) »rank: 30by: Dr. Denis Leary
Our review: :A hilarious blast of scathing irreverence from the award-winning actor and comedian.“A pissed off Leary is the best Leary,” says one critic of the writer and comic. In Why We Suck, Dr. Denis Leary uses his common sense, and his biting and hilarious take on the world, to attack the politically correct, the hypocritical, the obese, the thin--basically everyone who takes themselves too seriously. He does so with the extra oomph of a doctorate bestowed upon him by his alma mater Emerson College. “Sure it’s just a celebrity type of thing--they only gave it to me because I’m famous.” Leary ...
